After a Friday filled with blood, sweat, and tears, the remaining players of DANISA DENMARK OPEN 2018 presented by VICTOR are ready to fight at the semi-finals. Only half of them will make it onto the finals tomorrow, but what can we expect from today? We have pinpointed a few of them on paper most interesting matches, so you know what to expect.
Watch the semi-finals in exclusive settings:
MIXED DOUBLES
10 AM local time, court 1: Marathon mixed doubles match in the making?
At yesterday’s quarter-final, Zheng Siwei /Huang Yaqiong showed no mercy when playing against Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock. After a superior win with the result 21-12, 21-7, the Chinese left the court with confidence. Today, they will meet Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, who also played a great game yesterday against the Danes Mathias Christiansen/Christinna Pedersen.
Zheng/Huang have within less than a year gone from being ranked 46th in the world to be the top ranked mixed double. Ahmad/Natsir on the other hand, have held a steady place in the top three for a long time. The two constellations have played against each other three times prior, with the Chinese duo taking the lead with one win.
This match has the potential to be a marathon, and it is impossible to predict a result. As the match is the first of the day, at least you won’t have to wait long to find out.
WOMEN’S DOUBLES
10:00 AM local time, court 2: Will Kim & Kong keep their winning streak?
After a superior win at the quarter-finals yesterday, the Korean couple Kim Hye Jeong/Kong Hee Yong are up against the Japanese duo Shiho Tanaka/Koharu Yonemoto. The two couples have never met, but what can we expect from today’s match?
Kim/Yong have shown great promise through this tournament, winning matches with large margins and they don’t seem to plan on slowing down. Tanaka/Yonemoto are also showing great effort on court, which means that no matter what - the game tomorrow will be interesting.
MEN’S SINGLES
Two highly interesting men’s singles matches are also taking place today in Odense. Last year’s winner of DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR, Kidambi Srikanth, is facing world champion Kento Momota in a, likely, thrilling match.
Dane Anders Antonsen played an impressive match yesterday and is facing the world ranked Nr. four Chou Tien Chen. This particular match will most definitely be worth watching, since Antonsen beat the top seeded Viktor Axelsen two days ago and claimed yet another victory yesterday. Antonsen has put up a great fight and he will definitely give it 110% today as well.
WOMEN’S SINGLES
Around 2:00 PM local time, court 1: Who will take control?
Top seeded Tai Tzu Ying did not disappoint at yesterday’s match against Chen Yufei. When Ying takes the lead, she makes sure to keep in control. Most sets she wins, she wins big. Her opponent for today, He Bingjiao, seems to be taking the same approach.
Bingjiao has also been proving her worth during this tournament and most likely, the face off today will be no exception.
With both women fighting for control, this match is sure to be an interesting showdown.
